This German 2 Reichsmark was issued by Nazi Germany (the Third Reich) as part of a commemorative series honoring Paul von Hindenburg, the World War I field marshal and Reich President who appointed Adolf Hitler as Chancellor in 1933 before his death in 1934.

These coins were minted from 1936 to 1939, just before World War II escalated and silver coin production halted due to metal shortages. This 1939 issue is one of the last in the series and is considered scarcer because many Third Reich silver coins were melted down or confiscated after Germany's defeat in 1945.
For legal reasons, part of the reverse has been obscured.
