Notes

Constantine I as Augustus (324-337) - The Gate of Alexandria

This superb follis has a beautiful patina and is a great example of this type.  It features the gate of Alexandria on the reverse where it was minted (SMALA).  All the legends are crisp and it has a pleasing look and feel.

Key Details: The gate design shows no doors, has two turrets (towers), and usually features a large star hovering in the sky directly above the gate.

Mint Mark: You can verify the Alexandria origin by looking at the exergue (the bottom space on the coin), which features the mark SMALA or SMAL (Sacra Moneta Alexandria)
